Shay-Lee McConnell is from Port Alberni, and played two seasons at the Ontario Hockey Academy before joining the University of British Columbia (UBC) as a forward. During her five seasons at UBC, she played a crucial role in UBC's Canada West championships in 2021-22. Additionally, she has dedicated several summers to coaching at the Vancouver Hockey School, West Coast Prep Camp, and Team BC camps. Recently, she coached U15 A for the Vancouver Angels and the PCAHA U13 zone team, showcasing her commitment to developing young hockey talent.
